In September, the SEPA Chesterton Society is doing something a bit different. Rather than reading a particular work, we're focusing on a theme: and the theme is FUN. Join us on September 17th at 6:30 at Ivy Hall for a celebration of Chestertonian whimsy, and a chance to make your very own Chesterton-inspired board game! Of course, any avid Chesterton reader knows how much our man liked fun and games, whether it was chasing one's hat in a windstorm, or building toy theaters and performing small plays with them. In that spirit, we are going to come together and share our favorite passages from any of Chesterton's writings that have to do with the theme of fun and games! But that's not all! Did you know that Chesterton, along with his friend H.G. Wells, invented a game called "Gype"? The game has been reconstructed from written descriptions, and we are going to have an opportunity at this meeting to create our very own game boards to take home, and learn how to play! PLEASE NOTE: If you want to make a Gype board, please bring a donation of $7 to help offset the cost, and RSVP no later than August 30th so that we can prepare and have enough materials for all interested.
To RSVP, simply email us and let us know how many boards you will want to make. |
