A Pilgrim's Progress

Chesterton's grave.
A Chesterton fan and blogger in England, Malcolm, shares a wonderful reflection on the 4th Annual G.K. Chesterton Pilgrimage which recently took place.

Did you know about this annual event?

The walking pilgrimage participants have the option of raising money for charity with their walk, and its route goes from the site of GKC's baptism to the place of his final repose where he lies in rest with his wife Frances and his daughter-like-secretary Dorothy.
Malcolm's charming description makes us wish we could have been along for the memorable journey:
We left Kensington at eight o’clock in the morning, arrived at Uxbridge just after one thirty pm, and reached Beaconsfield around eight-thirty in the evening. Thankfully, the graveyard doors were still open, so we straggled in and made our way to the grave that Chesterton, despite being a man of the broadest possible girth, shares with his wife, Frances, and secretary, Dorothy Collins. He always was a kind man. When you read something – anything – by him, you will see that.

Before the grave, we said the GKC prayer once more. Photographs were taken and, I am afraid to say, this is where my patience, which had somehow lasted longer than my strength, gave way. One more picture… Another one… Ano— NO. I am off to the pub, thank you.

And to the pub we went.
Read the whole heartwarming account here. Kudos to these pilgrims for their inspiring witness to the importance Chesterton has had in so many lives.

Some Shots from the 2014 Chesterton Conference

Earlier this month, several Southeastern PA Chestertonians headed out to the Seminary of Our Lady of the Lake in Mundelein, IL for the 33rd Annual Chesterton Conference. The campus was beautiful and the people were - as could be expected - wonderful!

The keynote speaker for the event was His Excellency, the Most Reverend Thomas J. Paprocki, Bishop of Springfield in Illinois. Other speakers included Dale Ahlquist, Joseph Pearce, Father Robert Wild, Nancy Carpentier Brown, Scott Richert, and many others!

Of course, also much enjoyed were the meals where new friends were made, and the (in)famous afterglow gatherings!

Below the jump are some other pictures from what was truly an edifying and enjoyable event. If you have never been to one of these conferences, you might want to plan on it for next year!
